How to use this calculator

01

Select XAU/USD as your instrument

XAU/USD is pre-selected. Gold uses 100 troy ounces per standard lot, with a pip size of $0.01. This gives a fixed pip value of $1.00 per standard lot — one of the simplest to calculate.
02

Set your account currency

Choose USD, EUR, GBP, or an emerging market currency (INR, ZAR, TRY, BRL, IDR, PHP, MYR). The calculator fetches live ECB rates and converts your risk amount to the correct currency.
03

Enter balance, risk %, and stop-loss

Enter your account balance and the percentage you're willing to risk (1–2% is standard). Then enter your stop-loss distance in pips from your entry. For gold, 100 pips = $1.00 price move.
04

Read your lot size and R:R table

The result shows your exact lot size, the dollar amount at risk, and pip value per lot. The R:R table shows profit targets at 1:1, 1:1.5, 1:2 and 1:3. The losing streak simulator stress-tests your account across consecutive losses.

Frequently asked questions

What is the pip value for XAU/USD gold?

Gold (XAU/USD) has a pip size of $0.01 (one cent). With a standard lot of 100 troy ounces, the pip value is $1.00 per lot. A 100-pip move ($1.00 price move) is worth $100 on a 1-lot position. This is fixed in USD — no exchange rate needed if your account is in USD.

How do I calculate gold lot size?

Gold lot size = (Account Balance × Risk%) ÷ (Stop-Loss pips × $1.00). Example: $10,000 account, 1% risk ($100), 50-pip stop → lots = $100 ÷ (50 × $1.00) = 2.00 lots. For non-USD accounts, the pip value is converted at the live rate.

How many pips is $1 on gold?

On XAU/USD, 1 pip = $0.01 (one cent). So $1 of price movement = 100 pips. A move from 2,300.00 to 2,301.00 is 100 pips. If you hold 1 standard lot (100 oz), that $1 move = $100 profit or loss.

What lot size should I use for gold?

It depends on your account size and risk tolerance. With a $5,000 account, 1% risk ($50), and a 50-pip stop-loss, you should trade 1.00 lot. With the same account and a tighter 25-pip stop, you can trade 2.00 lots while keeping the same dollar risk. Never size based on conviction — size based on risk.

Why can't most calculators handle gold?

Many calculators only support forex major pairs. Gold requires different contract specs: 100 oz per lot, $0.01 pip size, and a fixed USD pip value. Our calculator handles all FX, metals (XAU, XAG), indices and crypto with the correct specs for each.

What is a standard lot of gold worth?

A standard lot of XAU/USD is 100 troy ounces. At $2,300/oz, one lot is worth $230,000 notional. Most retail brokers allow micro lots (0.01 lot = 1 oz) and mini lots (0.10 lot = 10 oz), making gold accessible without large capital.

How does spread affect gold trading?

Gold spreads typically range from 15–35 pips ($0.15–$0.35). On a 1-lot position, a 20-pip spread costs $20 on entry. The calculator shows your spread cost so you know the break-even point before you enter.
